What happens to your body after gallbladder is removed

Gallbladder removal is common for those with gallstones or gallbladder disease. The gallbladder stores bile to aid in fat digestion, but without it, bile flows continuously into the digestive tract. Most people adapt over time, but some may experience temporary digestive issues after surgery, such as discomfort with high-fat foods, diarrhea, bloating, or gas.

To ease recovery, doctors recommend eating smaller meals, avoiding fatty foods, increasing fiber, and staying hydrated. Over time, most people return to a normal diet with minimal adjustments. While digestion may feel different initially, many live normal, healthy lives post-surgery.
