Something extraordinary happened when 19-year-old Colby Swift took the stage on American Idol.
Colby had never studied voice or performed in front of a large audience. He asserted that he was a native of Texas and had never even
left the state. But his performance of Freddy Fender’s ‘Before the Next Teardrop Falls’ stunned the judges.
The aspiring young country singer and Luke Bryan, one of the Idol judges, had a special relationship.
He said, ‘I don’t believe a young person has ever entered here and been more like me at 19.» Bryan took a close
look at Colby’s worn-out footwear before asking an unexpected question. What size shoes do you wear, Colby? he asked.
